Fiddling about!
Ely Eel Day 2019
These two Morris Dancer musicians caught me taking a candid photo, and then asked for me to take a proper photo of them. Who was I to say no?!
Into Ely this morning for the annual Eel Day parade and festival, celebrating the city's namesake — the eel. We followed the procession from the cathedral, down to the river where the festivities continued, including the World Eel Throwing Competition!
As part of Eel Day, Morris Dancers from across the region took part in the procession and then performed at different locations around town. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t on their side; it’s been a cold day of 8 degrees, and sunny intervals interspersed with torrential hail showers. At times there was so much hail it looked like it had snowed!
In extras, Ely the Eel, Morris Dancers galore, Ely Market, and a scenic cow!
(Thank you for your recent kind comments and stars, I will catch up with replies when I’m back home...)
