NO UNDERLAY REQUIRED
Popped into Ulverston this morning with G, a bit of difficulty parking and wondered why it was suddenly so very busy. Then I noticed a sign for "Printfest" - aaaahhh that explains it.
After refreshing ourselves at Gilllams with coffee and homemade teabread with Lancashire cheese (just a small portion honestly) we decided to visit Printfest in the Coronation Hall. Although it was great to see all the different types of print used, such as etchings, wood prints, stencilling etc. it was very very busy and was crammed into two rooms. People wanting to stop and speak to the artists, fair enough but it made it extremely difficult to get round them all.
Anyway you get a chance to pick your favourite artist and vote for them and those with the most votes gets the people's choice award.
The official blurb says: Printfest is dedicated to the exhibition and sale of contemporary hand-made prints, it is a rare opportunity for some of the best of the UK’s printmakers to gather under one roof, to share practice and learn from each other.
Printfest offers visitors a lovely experience of making an artwork purchase. You get to talk to the artist, hear the story behind that piece of work and find out more about printmaking. The artist gets to hear why you have responded to it as a visitor.
I know they say it is affordable art for everyone but I still find it expensive, but then appreciate the work and cost of materials to produce it.
After the business of this we then went to Conishead Priory again. G loves this place and hadn't actually been to The Temple for a while, so we had a nice light lunch there (homemade soup and sandwich combo).
Whilst he went round the temple I walked through the woods to take some photos. This "carpet" (no underlay) of pink petals from the rhododenruns caught my eye, hope you like them??
Here are a few links for anyone wanting them.
