An ordinary life....

Teeth, tits and eyes...

...and some Friday flower faffery!

I received three pieces of official correspondence today.

The first was a text from my dentist that awoke me from my slumbers announcing that I am now due for my free six monthly dental checkup.  The second was a letter from the Scottish Breast Screening Programme inviting me to a breast screening appointment later this month, and the third was another letter, this time from my optician, advising me that my eye examination is due.  All I need now is the letter from the Bowel screening programme and I have the full set!  What fun it is being over 50!  :-))  (Joking aside, I am very grateful that our NHS cares about me so much.)

Today has been a bit of faff all round.

First of all David collected Alan's pal Andrew and brought him to the house to spend the day with Alan and go swimming.  So far, so good.

As Alan's car is in the garage getting the suspension fixed and we won't get it back till the end of next week,  David organised the hire of a wheelchair accessible car from a garage in Glasgow and it was arranged he would collect it at 4pm this afternoon.  This necessitated him getting a train from Dunblane to Glasgow.  He was duly dropped off at Dunblane railway station.

Jordan headed off out with Alan and Andrew for a wander down the High Street and a plan to pop into their favourite coffee shop.  I had just settled down to catch up with some phone calls when David sent me a text to say the train had been cancelled.  He went for a coffee to await the next train, which was also cancelled.  As was the next one!  He gave up at that point and returned home!  Arrangements were hastily remade and the garage have kindly agreed to him collecting the car tomorrow.  They only normally do collections and drop offs on weekdays so it's very kind of them.  They have given David some convoluted instructions on where he has to go to get it (as the showroom is closed on a Saturday) so there is a chance for further farce!

Alan and Andrew had a great time in the pool, followed by Andrew requesting his usual fish supper for tea.  He then asked for a diet coke, which David duly gave him, and Ashleigh wound him up by telling him she could smell vodka in it.  Andrew then asked David if he'd put vodka in hs coke and David told him yes, a triple measure (he hadn't.)  Result is a very merry Andrew who could hardly walk in a straight line to the car for David to run him home!  Oh the power of suggestion!  :-))

Hope David remembers to tell Andrew's mum he was only joking about the vodka!  :-))

In other news, we got a lovely email and photo (see extra) sent to us this evening by our wee pals' Anna and Faith's dad L.  We've been sponsoring (along with other sponsors)  L's brother Anthony's education through High School and now into further education.

Anthony has worked so hard all through his secondary school years and the letters he sends us always break my heart as he is so humble and thankful for the support he's received, and determined not to let us down (I sometimes worry he puts too much pressure on himself and tell him often that as long as he tries his best, it doesn't matter if he doesn't get top grades, but he always does.)

Anthony is now studying in Nairobi for a Diploma in Medical Laboratory.  He is in first year of medical school and doing really well.  Like his older brother L, who we've come to know and love, Anthony has overcome so many obstacles, the main ones being poverty and lack of opportunity and now he's studying far away from his village and his family..   He's also been devastated by the loss pf some close family members this past year but still he ploughs on with his studies.  We are so proud of him and excited to be part of his journey in some small way.
