Cockermouth Castle

This was taken in the pouring rain this morning!

The Normans built the first castle in Cockermouth in 1134, mainly from stone from the Roman settlement in nearby Papcastle.

It played an important part in The War of The Roses...

It is now privately owned and is open to the public from time to time...

You can also see the River Derwent, with lots of water in it! Not far away, the River Cocker flows into the Derwent. Just over 3 years ago Cockermouth was very badly flooded!

I understand that Mayan calendars are going cheap, and that budgies are going cheep too! Yes! I have been pulling Christmas crackers!!!
