St Marys Church, Teynham, Kent

St Mary's is a very old church, mentioned in the doomsday book, its basis is in the 13th century and older in parts . It sits in a very rural part of Kent, surrounded by apple, pear and cherry orchards, again dating back over time to King Henry 8 who commissioned cherries to be grown. The extra shows it in setting its amongst the orchards.
Unfortunately it has been neglected, on the outside atleast; when we were there 3 women were hacking back the undergrowth and trying to weed and mow between the gravestones. We walked over one area which frankly was dangerous as we sank down amidst the very old graves. When l asked the women why the vicar, Reverand Lillycrap, was not trying to raise the profile and get more people involved, he is reported to have said "l have 9 churches to look after"
