Abstract Thursday : : Minimalist
Our wonderful Kathy, Pilates teacher/Physical therapist par excellence, and her husband built their house, and I remembered that they had a very interesting triangular shaped sunshade above their kitchen window. I arrived armed with my camera in hopes of finding an interesting abstract shot. Alas they always take it down in the winter and her husband hasn't had a chance to put it up yet. The bad part is that I didn't even notice that it has been down for months. Its is a wonderful, very fireproof, sustainably built house and Kathy told me to feel free to take pictures. With some liberal cropping, this is the result of my foray around her house. Next week I'll take a picture of the whole house.
We usually go out to lunch after we see Kathy and today was no exception. We got a hot dog from the truck outside at Friedmans (our local version of Home Depot) and shared a picnic table with a man and his dog, Bodhi, a very dignified and well behaved standard poodle who watched us eat with restrained interest.
OilMan had to buy a new hand truck since he blew a tire on the old one and couldn't replace it. Now we have the problem of how to dispose of the old one, along with the tall ladder with a crumpled leg and the wheelbarrow which has rusted through. (We also passed the line up of trucks backed up on to the freeway waiting to go to the dump.) The amount of stuff we throw away is something that I am increasingly aware of. Even concentrating on plastic alone seems to be a full time job. The Redwood Gospel Mission takes used furniture, clothing and even electronics if they work, but broken garden tools are becoming a problem.
Our final errand was to pick up my camera from the camera store which had to ship it back to Canon for repairs. The clerk brought out the box, opened it, stabbed himself in the thumb on a staple and finally pulled out a brand new camera. Apparently it is sometimes cheaper and easier to do that than to keep all the parts for 'older' cameras...even though the brand new one is the same model as the old one. I don't quite see how this is easier, but I guess getting rid of the old one is now their problem....
