River of Flowers

Mossman Gorge, Queensland

Early this morning MrD went off and hired a car, then we set off down the Captain Cook Highway to the Mossman Gorge. We have read some interesting info about this part of the rainforest and decided it would make for an unusual day, we were not disappointed.

At 11am we joined 6 other tourists and our guide Mattie to go along the Ngadiku Dreamtime Walk. Before we were allowed to enter the sacred trail we were smoked using bark from the Maluka tree, in order to purify and welcome us. We then followed a recently rediscovered ancient trail learning about the plants and animal life of this part of forest. It was fascinating giving names and uses to all the trees and learning how the various traditional clans of Queensland traded and interacted with each other.

We retuned to the visitor centre where we had a lovely prawn salad for lunch before embarking on another forest walk, this time on our own. Much of the trail was on raised walkways allowing us to see down into the forest floor and up through the canopy. We both enjoyed this too! Today's blip is from one of the observation points and is of the Mossman River.

Whilst walking around we got talking to a family of 4 Swedish people, the usual where are you from resulted in the daughter asking "... where in Anglesey?" - she had only been living with a friend of hers in Menai Bridge (which has featured frequently in my journal)!! Really small world ...

When we finally got back to the car the outside temperature was 37 degrees, pretty warm!

I cooked pasta for this evening's meal and we are staying in watching telly, because tomorrow we have another adventure planned .....

Hope everyone is having a good pre-Christmas weekend x
