Fairy Pools

Today we are on Skye. We took the Kylereah ferry from Glenelg and were surprised there was no one waiting. Only one other car on. Last time, two years ago, we had quite a wait but we spent it watching the Sea Eagles catching fish and tussling with the gulls. No wait today and, sadly no Sea Eagles.

Climbing up on the other side and were soon in the cloud and drizzle but when we dropped down to Broadford to was dry. After a coffee we headed to Glenbrittle to walk to the ‘Fairy Pools’ at the foot of the Black Cuillin.

Our walk description said the car park could be full in summer but we parked with out problem and happily paid the charge as it goes to improve the parking facilities and maintain the much eroded path. It was very busy though but we enjoyed the walk up the gully which leads to the Cuillin and is dotted with a series of waterfalls and wonderful aquamarine pools. Great rock formations from water erosion.

Cloud hung over the mountains for much of the ascent but as we turned to come back it lifted and we’ve had a wonderfully sunny afternoon, if a bit breezy. Followed signs for ‘Coffee, Cake and Beach’ arriving at a camp site at the very end of the glen. It did the job, toilets too of course.
Headed to our accommodation then following the route along the west coast. Great views to sea and the the MacLeod Tables on Duirinish. Looking back you could see the Black Cuillin where we had walked.
The morning started with fairies. Before leaving Dornie I wanted to find a bakery that Fifetourer had posted just a week or two ago. It’s Manuel’s Wee Bakery but also known as the Fairy Tale Kitchen. They do pizza at night but bread etc in the day time. We bought a couple of savouries for lunch which we ate before our walk. I particularly like the ‘Wee Room’. It said ‘Beware Grumpy Old Men’ so just had to take a picture of Chris by it. Also we are heading to our beloved Wee House after we leave Skye - Tigh Beag/ Tighe Bheag in Gaelic, a euphemism for toilet!
Lovely evening now. Walking down to the Edinbane Inn for dinner. This is our fourth visit and it has been ‘mightily done up’ since we first ate there several years ago and it now includes rooms to stay. Our hosts here have said it has just gone on the market for £800,000!
(Our b&b has now got 2 pods with their first visitors due tonight - we might have to come again!)
Everyone is talking about tomorrow’s predicted bad weather we’ll just have to wait and see!
