Hope for Emergencies

Here's to the End of the World!

A stray cat has been coming to my porch, staring through the window at me with big, sad eyes. The Christmas tree is both blocking and tied to the porch door, so there's no way for me to get out there or let him inside. I can just squeeze my hand through, so I've been leaving him little piles of food. It's SO cold and gusty out there; it breaks my heart to think of him all alone in the cold all night.

Of course, Sebastian has always been insanely territorial (otherwise I'd definitely have two cats), so once he spies the interloper, he starts flinging his whole body weight against the window, screaming and hissing, scaring the poor thing away.

I went out at dusk with some food and searched all the bushes, hoping I could find him and see if he was friendly enough to want some attention. He must've been hiding. Sebastian's still on high alert from last night, so if the stray does come back, he won't be allowed to stay long.

Poor baby. No human or animal should be homeless and out in the cold at Christmas time. It's not right.

Tonight I tried the seasonal version of JK's Scrumpy, my favorite organic cider. It was delicious (and just as devastatingly potent as the regular flavor), but those bottles are TOO BIG, darnit!
