Midweek Frisia - Vlieland
Today I ticked the final box of the Dutch Wadden Islands. Vlieland was the only one I never had been to. Until today.
We woke up at 06.30 am, had a quick shower and breakfast and took the ferry of 09.00 am from Harlingen to Vlieland. The crossing took 95 minutes.
Our rental bikes were ready at the Zeelen-bike shop on arrival, so around 10.45 were we on our way. We soon left the crowded main street Dorpsstraat and headed for the West side of the island.
We did some geo-caching (the newest hobby of Bas and Daan) and found three caches. Great fun.
We paused several times. First to see a colony of spoonbills on the mudflats in the Wadden Sea, a bit later we stopped on the North Sea beach. When we were back in the village we had a nice lunch. After that we visited a fair in the Dorpsstraat. Around 16.00 pm we returned our bicycles and walked back to the terminal to check in for the ferry back to Harlingen.
After another 95 minutes we were back on the mainland where we searched for a restaurant.
Once back in our holiday home Bas and Daan snuggled up in front of the TV to see the football match Barcelona-Liverpool. Not my cup of tea. I filled the bathtub for a nice hot bath. After that I did some photo post processing and I wrote todays blip.
Annemarie grabbed her book and started reading.
We all did what we liked most, the atmosphere was great. A nice family day has come to an end.
No plans for tomorrow yet, so no alarm clocks or anything like that.
