A penny for your thoughts

That’s an old-fashioned thing to say these days.
In Lidl today I watched the lady in front of me pay for her goods in cash: fifty four pounds and seven pence. I realised I haven’t seen anyone do that - counting out the tenners and rifling through her purse for the coins - for a long time. I just held my phone over the card terminal.
It does seem less painful that way. Even though it isn’t.
