Oops!

Pretty awful roads through beautiful scenery to a lovely town in Dumfries and Galloway in the Scottish Borders.
In 1875 the Moffat ram was given sculptured by William Brodie and given to the town by William Colvin, a local businessman,in recognition of the sheep and wool trade in the town.  It stands on a 10ft sandstone plinth with water fountains at levels suitable for people and animals.  At the grand unveiling of the statue s local farmer shouted out to the crowd that the ram had no ears!  It is said that Brodie couldn't stand the shame and some time later committed suicide.  Poor man!  It is a beautiful statue.
