A May Basket for the Fairies
Dear Diary,
Henry made a wee May basket to hang on the fairies' door today. He heard that there are lots of fairies in Ireland and he thought it would be nice to let them know we are coming. (Does he think our Maine fairies will email their Irish cousins?) Anyway, the only flowers that would work were the little scilla and a few forsythia. The daffodils were just a tad bit too big. I did tell him that it is the first day of summer according to the Celtic calendar and he thought that was just dandy. Now, he'll want a swimsuit I suspect!
If you would like to know more about this New England tradition of hanging May baskets on your neighbor's door you can read about it here.
