Humphrey Head

By way of the Windermere ferry, train-spotting the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, a (closed) Bobbin Mill and a (closed) Cartmell Pudding shop we spent the afternoon walking along the shore to the point of Humphrey Head, a mile-long limestone outcrop giving views over the sandy expanse of Morecambe Bay.
From the ridge we could see shelduck and (we think) an egret, feeding in the mudflats below: along the tops, among the common flowers were several purple orchids (species undetermined) but not the green-winged that information boards indicate.
A good day, on what may be our last day of sunshine.
