Prospect Street Micropub, Alfreton
The weather was terrible this morning so Rick and I delayed our departure for the last game of the season at Alfreton. I picked him up in Manchester mid-morning and we elected to miss out the geocaching part of our usual geocaching/pub/football trilogy.
The pub was close to the ground and was one of the excellent new breed of micropubs. There is a lot said about the number of pubs closing but you rarely hear anything about the ones opening up to replace them which seem to be much better. This small outlet was really friendly and we entertained ourselves by playing the pub game "Shut the Box" which you can see to the left the picture (with the instructions in the foreground).
While we were sat there we were joined by a couple of other Chester fans. One of them, who is an expert on the subject, informed us that there were actually four micropubs in Alfreton.
As for the football, Chester managed to mess it up as usual. They took the lead with a clever free kick, similar to the one at Darlington, and they were in complete control when the home side went down to 10 men. However. Alfreton managed to equalise against the run of play only for Chester to quickly regain the lead. Unfortunately, with 8 minutes to go Alfreton scored a wonder goal to make it 2-2.
The strange thing about the Alfreton equaliser is that it actually won me our prediction league which I have mentioned a few times this season.
Chester finished the season in 9th position. I noticed in the blip for the first game of the season that I said that they would finish about 13th so it was slightly better than expected.
The extra shows the players at the end of the game. Fortunately the bad weather held off while we watched the game.
