Early drive to Florence, cleaning and an exhausting trip to ikea to get a bed. We swithered and switched and ended up getting something that looks really decent.

Then a Boss work meal which was engaging.

On the Friday back out to Casentino to meet a guy who specialises in varnishing and painting craft-made Casentino furniture. Threeblokes toiling away. Amazing that this artisan tradition persists and manages to reproduce itself. He’s going to equalise (imbiancare) the piece of walnut furniture we got before applying many thin coats of varnish (like on a painting). A thousand miles from the ikea way which is increasingly threatening these noble and ancient crafts.


The guy, in his late 60s, showed us some massive oak fittings he’s doing for a house on Switzerland- using acids and randomised clouts and almost invisible Matt varnishes to distress the wood to give it a rustic feel.
