Death and democracy ..
In a nutshell .. for two years I've been trying to cancel a postal vote and only just succeeded in doing so! (At the last election I was told they'd cancelled the postal vote and I could just turn up at the polling station to vote - but when I got there they wouldn't allow me to vote as I *still* had a postal vote - so had no vote at all :( ) But today I have caught up with the rest of the world! I turned up at the Guildhall and refused to leave until I had a polling card in my hand!
On a dog walk I came across a pigeon which I'd also seen yesterday. He couldn't fly and was just running around. I caught him and took him to the vet. She wouldn't even look at him, which I found rather surprising. After ringing various local places none of which could help, I rang a friend who has a wildlife hospital (quite a way away, sadly) - she rang my vet and said she'd rehabilitate the bird if they were able to help it. I took him in - but sadly she talked me through the various reasons she felt he couldn't be helped. Poor chap. I left him there to be euthanised. The amount of stress I put him though makes me wonder if it would have been better to leave him wandering about in his home having a happy time until he gently faded away, or a fox came along and quickly polished him off. It's never easy.
Meanwhile - Ginger came along and saved the day. He was a bit soggy as we'd just had a rather spectacular hailstorm, with plenty of thunder and lightning.
