Heronry and Spring Flowers

 A cloudy day, but not too cold.  We decided to spend the afternoon at the Lac de Villeneuve-de-la-Raho.  The former lake of Villeneuve-de-la-Raho had a size of 150 hectares (370 acres). Considered useless, it was dried in 1854, and the land was then used for agriculture.  Recovered by the General Council of the Pyrénées-Orientales, it was filled with water and became a lake once again in 1977.  Now described as “Our green lung at the gates of Perpignan”.  The drive to make it a lake again was for hydraulic reasons, and the space is managed according to the principles of sustainable development.
 
It now has 50 hectares of quality green space and 230 hectares of water space, with remarkable landscape views, wildlife preserves and a lot of outdoor activities that makes the lake one of the most visited places in the department.
