Vung Tau
Ho Chi Minh is an extremely busy city so we decided to take a break from all the noise and run away to little city named Vung Tau. It's renown for being the getaway spot with its extensive beaches. We managed to make it there in a hydrofoil, 'machine' is the word my sister went for as we were all silently thinking about the safety of this vehicle. It wasn't as elegant as the advert made it out to be. To be honest, it felt more like we were projected across the water inside a missile that felt like it was on the verge of falling apart at every impact with the waves. Quite a fun experience after I stopped worrying about dying, the world was going to end the next day anyways!
Found our hotel without difficulty and decided to explore the coast while looking for a place to grab some lunch. It was a ghost town, maybe one or two scooters ever so often. We weren't sure where to go eat as all the bars and restaurants were deserted. An old couple was sitting in a corner bar, so we approached them to ask where everyone was. 'Sleeping' they said. After a quick lunch, we took a stroll along the beach and slowly started spotting people sleeping in the grass. I thought this would be a perfect moment to sneak up and take some pictures. The second the shutter clicked, the subjects were all looking at me. Awkwardly walked away...
I thought I'd try to creep up on some fishermen working by the beach. I got pretty close until they turned around. Damn you shutter. I thought I managed to get some good shots until I realized they were out of focus. Damn you manual focus. Hence I had to settle for this shot, which I like nonetheless but disappointed as I wanted to portray the cultural aspect of Vietnamese tough manual labour. Perhaps another day.
In the afternoon, I successfully managed to soak up the sun by burning my face. It'll pass. In the meantime, I'm still going to tan as we're heading back to pollution covered Ho Chi Minh in a few days.
Found a nice little french bistro around the corner for dinner. Yes I have been complying with the culture, traditional food all day long for the past week, so shush I can have a day meal off.
