Reasonable Watchfulness

You can’t let your guard (or your pants) down for a minute when you leave home. After a couple relaxing stops at these roadside rest areas on Highway 101, we arrived safely at home in the late afternoon. 


Central California is an amazing place. We passed a world famous toxic waste dump, bordered by a fruit orchard and across the street from pumping oil fields. The whole area is a desert at heart, with scrubby bushes, wind and blowing sand. I wonder about the first guy who looked at this land and decided it would be a great idea to plant an orchard.
