Grimm's anniversary
Today is the 200th anniversary of the publication of German folk tales by the Grimm brothers. Hansel and Gretel were hungry and lost deep in the forest when they came across "a house built of bread and roofed with cakes and the window was of transparent sugar" but little did they know it belonged to a wicked witch. Since the stories were published gingerbread houses have become popular at Christmas especially in Germany.
Over the years the contents of this little pottery house have been enjoyed by children at many Christmas Day services. Now its trips to church are over but it still gets filled up each year for our own enjoyment.
