Avanti

Steve and I have been working together since 2004 and, apart from the Minx and I my kids, I probably speak to him more than anybody else, yet in all that time I reckon I could count the number of times we've been out for a drink together on one hand. 

Today, though, as most of the country comes to a halt, we had an opportunity to get out for a couple of beers in Kirkby Lonsdale on the basis that I'd pick him up around four and the Minx would drop him home later on. 

And so it was that we found ourselves in the sunlit garden at Avanti, which still has its huge spider on the wall, drinking and chatting. We were there much longer than I expected - we never seem to run out of things to talk about - and in the end the Minx, miniMinx, and Dan joined us there for a bite to eat.
