a lifetime burning

What's eating you?

I had hoped to catch a picture of the elusive newts in the pond, but didn't manage it.  Every time that I saw them I had put the camera down :-). Clever little blighters.  At one stage we had a damselfly in the utility room, but I was more concerned to safely escort it out than to use the photo opportunity it presented.

But fortunately I spotted this opportunity later on this afternoon.

If you look carefully you can see small green creature hiding between the petals of the flower.  From the length of its antennae I'm pretty sure that this is a speckled bush cricket nymph.  I don't think I've spotted one quite as early in the year as this before - but they are tiny and easily mistaken for greenfly or similar at this stage of their lives.

In other news, the bank holiday is drawing to a gentle close.  The weather is not quite as warm this evening, and I gather we have some rainy days to come later in the week. Probably just as well as the pond has lost a fair bit of water and could do with a top up - I'm assuming that its evaporation and not the newts drinking it!
