Smokey 1041 hr (Monday 22nd April 2019)
Although Smokey did appear in Extras on 13th April, this is his first blip this month, so I thought this a good opportunity to take a break from the flora shots that have dominated this month.
Nevertheless, I have chosen two flora shots to go in as Extras. Those camellia blooms don't last long, do they? I did a bit of dead-heading this morning, and took a couple of shots first. Luckily, new blooms are budding to replace them.
I had always thought the bluebells in my garden were native. I knew if I had bought any, they certainly would have been, but there is a border where the apple tree and bluebells live that was there before I moved in, and having read up on them I have concluded that mine, both blue and white, are hybrids (Hyacinthoides x massartiana). Their stems remain upright at the top and the leaves, although mostly quite slender, include a couple that are 18-20mm wide, apparently a giveaway. I suppose if I added some native ones now they would quickly hybridize, sadly.
