Easter Day 2019
A bonfire, Easter candle and ensemble of musicians accompanied the hymns on the beach at 0700 this morning as all the churches in Portobello and those of no church, like me, enjoyed communion on the sands. There were about 100, of all ages, foregathered for this al fresco service.
Unshackled by further Easter services we were free to flee to The Borders making a bee line for Eyemouth. It was relatively quiet when we arrived and set off northwards towards St Abb’s.
The sun shone. The sea was turquoise. The blue sky was full of larks, butterflies, pied wagtails and even a brilliant yellow hammer. The path undulated and like all decent coastal paths had steep climbs and descents to make our 8 mile walk seem more like 10!
When we got back to Eyemouth it was now 23 degrees and heaving with trippers! We headed north to St Abb’s by road to enjoy tea and a hot cross bun at the Old Smiddy before taking the coastal route home to Joppa.
