The Lune

By the time it gets down to Halton, the Lune seems to be widening and flattening out, and when it comes to pass beneath the M6 it looks rather like the river in the opening credits of 'House'. (At least as I remember them.)

In Lancaster, the river passes to the north of the city centre and, as you can see from the photo, is obviously tidal. I always kind of assumed that the sea was not far downstream from here although, in fact, the Lune meanders on for ages, passing Glasson Dock just before it does finally reach the Irish Sea.

Lately, I've been thinking of running along the canal from Kendal to Glasson Dock: I'm particularly keen to cross the Lune Aqueduct. I'd have to break it up into a number of runs, maybe 15 miles sections. The Minx - the perennial enabler - is up for it and willing to do the drop offs and pick ups, and my plan is that we'll stay in the hotel near Glasson Dock to celebrate the finish. Watch this space.
