Hoi An to Tam Ky

Day one of our cycle ride from Hoi An to Nha Trang, our guides pick us up at the hotel at 730 and we cycle to the ferry (in the loosest sense of a boat that transfers people and things for money) and then through a series of villages.

We stop to meet a fisherman who's neighbours are helping him mend his boat, it's a traditional coracle which they carry a number of on a larger boat and then put into the water to cast nets from.

We attract quite a crowd as everyone comes out to see what's going on, the boats look impossible to steer with no keel or rudder, when fishing apparently they just let them drift off the big boat but later in the week we'll see people rowing them with one oar making it look effortless.

Later on our guides commandeer someone's house to cook us lunch, they just stop at the side of the road, tell us there isn't a restaurant and ask a local woman if we can eat at their house. We must look shocked, but the food, fresh fish from the days catch, was delicious.
