Foot Washing
Today is Maundy, or Holy Thursday, when we remember Jesus' last meal with his disciples before being crucified. "Maundy" comes from the Latin mandatum, which means "commandment", because it was when he gave us the commandment, "love one another as I have loved you", after he had done the slave's job of washing their dusty feet.
The Padre asked to wash Mike, Paul and Julia's feet (as well as nine others') in the service tonight. Unlike the disciples, everyone got busy washing their feet so they'd be clean for him... All went well until the exit, when the three of them paraded down the aisle, while everyone else went right towards the vestry, and then stood at the front signaling for our three to come back. Anyway, it certainly lightened the atmosphere.
Gratefuls:
- taking Julia, Deb and Sam to Badajoz; the scenery on the way so beautiful, the grass fresh green from the recent rain, and dramatic skies
- Mike and Paul being willing to look after the littlies while we went, and having a good time together
- this special day in the year, and the love the Padre shows us non-Catholics
