Townhall Clock

Although the weather was chilly, I decided to head out to Twyford Wood to look for a few species that hadn't been seen recently. My quest was partially successful, and I also found a new and surprising species for the site, Sea Mouse-ear, which may have arrived when the site was used as an air base during World War 2.

The diminutive little Moschatel is also known as "five-faced bishop" and "townhall clock" due to the structure of its inflorescence. This consists of five flowers: one four-petalled flower facing upwards, and four five-petalled flowers facing horizontally. It is locally frequent along one of the streams, and I also found two additional patches further east.
