Atom

Atom is the panopticon for Pendle and is the part of the project to erect a series of 21st-century landmarks across East Lancashire as symbols of the renaissance of the area.  The Singing Ringing Tree I blipped previously is part of the same panopticon.

Atom was designed by Peter Meacock and is constructed in ferro-cement with a surface coating of metal-based paint. It is intended as both a viewing point and shelter, and also as an intriguing and beautiful object in the landscape.

I'm not sure I would consider it beautiful, especially now that it is covered in graffiti, but it certainly gives an interesting frame for a photo. It was a really hazy day so I imagine it would look even better with a bright blue sky set against the grey structure.

My photo was looking through the centre of the atom and I really like how the disc of landscape looked like it was balanced on the metal stand.

Quote for today:
Nothing exists except atoms and empty space; everything else is opinion.
