Split
Like a spread-eagled cry for help
from the foot
of a cliff
your heart’s desire
is just within earshot.
You reach for her
but her curves
and softness
have fallen silent.
You raise your arm,
your outstretched palm
attempting to halt
time
which moves on,
of course,
and your life is split in two:
before
and after
you lost her.
