Work was better today. I had some one to one training on 'Badger net'. This will be the 3rd maternity computer system we have had in 13 years. Hopefully it will stick. It was designed by a chap called George Badger and has been successfully rolled out right across Scotland and some English hospitals. It's a paperless system and holds maternity notes from the start of pregnancy to the end of the postnatal period. Mums can access their own records via an app and download up to date leaflets on current topics. Sounds exciting.

We had a crisis staff meeting later in the afternoon due to the fact that we have/are down by 1/3rd, so that's 10 of us to 7. (That's whole time equivalents). One has gone to a different team. Another sadly has breast cancer, and 2 more are retiring in May. We put some suggestions forward and asked our manager to take it to the Head of Midwifery and also to the Trust Board. One of the suggestions that will happen is that we do shorter shifts and work 5 days a week, we currently do compressed hours over 4 days. We are not totally happy to do this for ever but if it's short term until more staff arrive then that's ok. I do worry where they will get more staff from. Although there is an obvious imbalance of staff/workload in our teams across this part of the county. Did I mention I only have 18 weeks to work full time!
