The ecstasy and the agony
Ecstasy is perhaps a bit of an exaggeration, but on my way to Fraserburgh this morning to meet a friend for coffee, I saw this crane in a field. I don’t think I saw one last year, but they have certainly made an appearance in years before that.
However, the agony was very real.
A little further along, on the main road, I saw a roe deer at the side of the road. I stopped to see if there was anything I could do. It was still alive but very poorly and I was pretty certain it was dying.
But what to do!
I would have killed it if I had had the necessary equipment as I hate seeing animals suffering.
I thought a car might stop to help but they just went on their way.
After about five minutes, a 4 by 4 thing stopped and a man came out. I’m pretty sure the deer died at this point, possibly through fear or shock.
The irony was that the man said he was on his way to shoot roe deer!
He confirmed that the poor creature was now in fact dead and he took it away.
But why did the person who hit the deer not stop and do something?
Sorry that this does not have a happy ending.
At least I have an image of this rather impressive bird. It was about 125 cm in height.
