Our First Ornaments

After I graduated in September 1991, before my Doctor's license was granted, and in the months before my wife-to-be moved up to Michigan for Christmas, I spent a lot of time in a sales job talking on the phone. My creative love at the time was origami (paper folding). I spent hours folding various animals, until I came upon the idea to make Christmas ornaments and give them to my girlfriend (Carol, who didn't yet know she'd someday be my bride).

Each ornament requires 12 pieces of foil paper, and each piece needed 16 folds. Once you pieced them together, you locked them in place with an additional 32 folds. It took me over 2 months of talking on the phone to assemble 18 ornaments; six large (3") and 12 small (1.5"). They continue to be her most prized Christmas ornaments. These are displayed above the dining table.

My creative passion has moved on... I'm unlikely to ever add to the beauty of these ornaments. My oldest daughter was sotaken with them growing up ( never allowed to touch them!) that she begged me to teach her how it was done. That's a blip for another day...
