Pineapple

Wednesday's walk with Cumbernauld and Kilsyth Ramblers was a pleasant and easy 11.5km walk around Airth and Dunmore, and in glorious sunshine too!

Our route took us past Airth Castle Hotel, along the foreshore of the River Forth, through the pretty little village of Dunmore and into the woodlands in which sits the quirky Pineapple (pictured above).

According to the National Trust for Scotland website: "It was built in 1761 by the Earl of Dunmore as a summerhouse where he could appreciate the views from his estate. At this time, pineapples were among Scotland’s most exotic foods."

It certainly remains a popular place to visit and it was where we had our mid-walk lunch break before making our way back to our start-point in Airth village.
