Treat day
At the weekend JD and I didn’t treat ourselves to a salmon and cream cheese bagel because we wanted to get fish and chips when we were back on the mainland, however, when we arrived it was too late and the fish and chip shop was closed. This has led me to a pursue a new motto in life, treat yourself now because your not sure when the next one might be.
With this in mind, and after a long weekend, I felt like I deserved a lie in, and a slow start. Unfortunately, I have curtains that only allowed me to do one of those things, and I was rudely awoken by a beautiful spring time sunshine - I guess there’s worse ways to start your day.
I’d been putting off starting a new book until all my essays were done, and so today was the day! After my morning coffee, I sat down and started “Marching Powder”, a book, recommended by JD, about an interesting prison in Bolivia where corruption is rife. It tells the story of an Englishman who is a prisoner there and runs tours around the prison, so far so good.
Around lunch time I figured it’s time to get out of the flat and make the most of the remaining day I had. But with nothing but cheesecake to eat in the flat for lunch I was left with no other option, I HAD to treat myself to a crêpe! I cycled over and met JD for lunch. We both chose to go savory, opting for the margarita crêpe - goats cheese, spinach, avocado, and spicy sauce - we were not disappointed! After finding a quiet spot on the meadows, we sat down to bask in the sun, acting like we had nothing else to worry about. I’d brought the remnants of a, slightly smashed, strawberry cheesecake, which we quickly devoured. We had a looong lunch and decided we probably ought to go to the library, spurred on by the promise of dinner later on, I got on with some admin and sorted out things for when I’m home at the weekend.
JD cooked up some homemade veggie burgers, and I got on with the main event of the night, banoffee pie - JD’s favourite. My first time making it, and under some slight performance pressure, it’s fair to say I was slightly nervous. After a long wait, success! It turned out great, and there was plenty of it (we saved some for mid morning treat tomorrow).
We then decided to try to tick off one of the films on our (ever-growing) list of films to watch. We decided to watch ‘Memento’, I only made it 15 minutes in before, inevitably, I fell asleep - it’ll have to wait for now. A great end to a day full of treats, off out tomorrow on our “Wednesday weekend” adventure, can’t wait!
