Place of Worship

Our Catholic Church. Built in the 17th century by Portuguese Jesuits, it sits on top of a hill with a fantastic view over the coast and the Atlantic. It's dedicated to Nossa Senhora d'Ajuda who, during a severe drought that threatened the entire region, made water spring out from under the church. The fountain is still active, and people travel long distances to drink from it.
