NHM: Central Hall Carols HDR

More sing-along-able in large...

At lunchtime today, a choir of NHM and V&A staff members gave a wonderful carol concert in the central hall. There were many old favourites as well as some more modern and less conventional carols, but all were sung enthusiastically and tunefully, and it was merry and enjoyable.

I enjoyed wandering around to take photograph (including close-ups of colleagues in action!) and found it interesting to hear how dramatically different the choir sounded from different vantage points. From the high vantage point from which I took these exposures, the choir sounded warm but quiet, and the crowd's hubbub seemed quite pronounced, whereas from the side galleries the choir seemed much louder and the crowd less noticeable, but the sound was less warm and the cavernous reverb had been replaced by a much more direct and dry sound.

It was a wonderfully merry and Christmassy musical moment.

p.s. There was a lot of movement in the ground, so there are quite an amusing array of HDR artefacts on show amongst the crowd in this composite.
