A Meandering Life...

Boat Postie’s Helper

Today we spent the day delivering and collecting mail around Pelorus Sound. The service was started back in 1918 by a 17 yr old and it took two days in his little boat to get around all the farms and off grid families. Today it takes about 8 hrs with the service heavily subsidised by tourists coming along for the ride.

Since my last trip on the mail boat a bigger one has been commissioned which can take over 80 helpers. Today we only had 20 on board and 5 of those got off during the trip for off grid holidays.

My main Blip is the boat stopping off at Jacobs Bay for a shore excursion.

The extras include a below the boat shot taken with my phone on a selfie stick, passengers being disembarked near nowhere, flying King Shags (very rare) and a Shearwater treading water as it took off.

Picton tomorrow.
