Llangollen
Weather not so good today, but dry at least and we've had a fabulous time starting with a two hour horse-drawn boat trip from the Llangollen Wharf. Tobias, one of the five heavy horses lead expertly by his equine guide gently progressed us up a feeder to the main Llangollen Canal through beautiful countryside at a leisurely and peaceful pace. After 45 minutes we stopped, got off the boat and walked up to the Horseshoe Falls, more of a Weir rather than a waterfall but nevertheless a striking view. Back on the boat and Tobias gently towed us back to base where we thanked him and gave him his favourite treat of a few polos. We'd got a bit cold on the boat so had a warm up in the cafe with a steaming hot chocolate and cake. Then we had the compulsory lean over the iconic Llangollen bridge and watched some brave kayakers brave the fast flowing River Dee.
Then we drove to Trevor and had a walk across the equally iconic Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and another walk underneath it. The famous Thomas Telford designed this amazing structure and it was completed in 1805.
To end another perfect day we spent some time with a dear Hong Kong friend of mine whose wife, a very good friend of mine, died last year. It was very good to see up him again and catch up with family stuff and old memories.
Think we'll sleep well tonight after all this fresh air!
