Spring has sprung!

The sticky buds of the horse chestnut are opening well now. The photo even shows the typical horseshoe-shape scar beneath the bud which gives the tree its English name. But how did it find its way into our hedge? I suspect I couldn't resist picking up conkers one autumn and then several weeks later throwing them into the base of the hedge...
