Most of today spent dropping off Gerty for her new engine in Grantham. She made it over there with Mike and Tobes and me and Eva followed in the car. The guy had the whole engine and all its components laid out on his work bench. His garage was so well organised and he has a brilliant reputation so we're really confident he'll do a good job. We're lucky to get him as had his plans worked out he'd be living on Arran by now. But his move had been delayed by a few months so he had a spot, he had the right engine and Mike made the phone call at just the right time to bagsie it!
I had a dog to walk at lunchtime so we collected her and gave her a bit of a run, then went to a cafe for lunch and then took her for another walk. The cafe had the most amazing cakes and let dogs in so a good find.
We headed to the yard late this afternoon. Mike had some horse box jobs to do. Eva went on a little hack and I suggested when we got back to put the lunge line on and have a canter in the school. He was so brilliant to lunge yesterday and was cantering just off my voice commands so I thought the timing was good. Eva has this mental block about cantering after he did a couple of strides after some poles not long after she got him. She pulled him up but it frightened her and she hasn't wanted to try canter since, even though she did a lot on riding school ponies before getting Jack. He was absolutely brilliant today, cantered round on the lunge but we had tears from Eva after saying she didn't like it. I felt shit like I'd forced her into doing it and I don't want to be one of those pushy horsey mums but she so can do it!! She just needs to believe she can.
As the horse box was out, I decided to feed Jack in there. He walked straight in so at least we know he'll go on for food, which is more than Buddy does!
This evening we're having fish and chips and watching the first of the Harry Potter films with the kids after our trip last weekend!
