A dead, red nettle

Lamium purpureum, commonly known as red dead-nettle, purple dead-nettle, red henbit, purple archangel or velikdenche, is a herbaceous flowering plant native to Europe and Asia and common throughout the UK.

In some places, it is known as purple archangel, because it blooms around the Feast of the Apparition on May 8, which was when St Michael, the archangel, appeared to onlookers at Mount Gargano in sixth century Italy.
