Threave Castle

Today's the day …………………………. for Castles and Towers

A guided tour today of four castles in the Galloway Glens - namely Threave, MacLellan, Orchardton and Drumcoltran.

All distinctive in their own way but all typical of the grand fortified houses built in this area from the 1400s onwards.  We had two excellent guides and the day went without a hitch.  I had looked across at Threave Castle back in January when it was closed to the public.  So it was specially nice to go there today on the little boat and see it properly.

And the added bonus - was a view of the ospreys which had returned to their nest not far away ……………………...
