Guided by the Light
The Port Dalhousie Marina, Port Dalhousie, Ontario
Out for a walk on this warm December afternoon with Hayley, Charlie and Wednesday. They LOVE coming to Port Dalhousie because it is home to many Canadian Geese.
Inner Range Lighthouse
There are two lighthouses in Port Dalhousie, originally built as navigational aids to direct ships into the harbour and the First, Second and Third Welland Canals. The outer range lighthouse, built circa 1879, is located at the end of the marina pier and the inner lighthouse is located further inland. The present inner range lighthouse was rebuilt circa 1898 to replace an earlier one, which was destroyed by lightning. Both local landmarks were integral to the early Welland Canal System. The lights were automated in 1968, and the rear range light was deactivated in 1988.
Since 1991, the Inner Range Lighthouse has housed the Niagara College Sailing School on its lower floor. It rises to a height of 52 feet and is topped with a small lookout.
