Alnwick Castle dark skies and daffodils

We took our Finns south across the border today to visit gardens and castles in England.

After a short stop-off en route in Kelso to show our visitors the beautiful market square, our first main destination was Alnwick Castle. We started with a guided tour of the incredibly luxurious state rooms, then spent several hours outside - first by the amazing and enormous daffodil display, then in the main garden, and finally in the poison garden. As is traditional, 'cake for lunch' was consumed late afternoon. Then we returned to the castle to climb the ramparts and enjoy the views before setting off north again.

Our next stop was Holy Island. Our guests were very impressed by Lindisfarne castle, the Gertrude Jekyll garden (even though it's a bit bare this time of year), the priory, and the herring houses. We decided that it would probably be a good idea to have our evening meal on the island, so we ended our trip here with dinner in The Ship.

We finally made it home to Edinburgh at 9pm. It's been a super weekend showing things to Finns :-)

My main blip is of Alnwick Castle. The extras show Gunilla and Jouko enjoying themselves in the Alnwick castle garden, and then on Holy Island with the herring houses and Lindisfarne castle in the background.

Exercise today: walking (18,915 steps).
