Mothering Sunday
British Summer Time (in name only!) began today. The wind chill on the beach this afternoon proved otherwise but it was no deterrent to the ice cream vans that hoped to cash in on the clear blue sky and the procession of mothers being feted today in a money spinning exercise imported from the US I think?
Mothering Sunday was formerly a day when those in service were given leave to return to their mother church for one day a year. Their mothers would have enjoyed seeing their children briefly home from service in the big house as a by product but the mother church was at the centre of the day.
