I bet ancient people never imagined this.

We commonly put money in a coin box when visiting a shrine or a temple. Interestingly the sign doesn't seem to be aimed at Japanese people, as Japanese isn't written in the sign. This may be because Japanese people are still expected to bring money, not electronic one, when it comes to offering money at a shrine or a temple.


Nikko is a popular tourist spot for foreigners, and so I spotted a lot of signs written in other languages than Japanese. Though I left Nikko this day, I'm going to post a series of signs for days to come.
