Sunset Collage

Back to Boston after two weeks in rural Connecticut.  As I type this, I hear the sounds of car horns beeping impatiently down below -- it's the hour for theater goers to flock to see the latest offerings on Washington Street, and that always snarls up the traffic.

A bit stumped for a blip this evening, but as I sat looking out the kitchen window as the sun started to set, I loved how the light looked.  So here is a collage of different things seen:  a detail of One Lincoln Street -- a building I am often drawn to photograph.  This is one of many exterior light fixtures that eventually turn blue as night falls.  The Veolia Steam Plant which -- illogically -- always reminds me of London's Battersea power station, even though they really don't look anything alike, the golden light of the setting sun illuminating nearby office buildings, and finally a view towards Dorchester.  That steeple-like structure on the right is the Dorchester Heights Monument, built in 1776 to commemorate the actions of Revolutionary soldiers bringing artillery from Fort Ticonderoga in New York state to successfully defend Boston Harbor from the British.  The big bridge in the upper left corner is the Fore River Bridge which connects the towns of Quincy and Weymouth.  Finally the angled concrete structures at the forefront are air intakes for the tunnel under Boston that takes Interstate 93 to Logan Airport -- part of the infrastructure of the Big Dig.
