Butterfly Love

Male peacock butterflies establish territories, defend them against other males and wait for females to come fluttering by. I saw this pair on the blackthorn. He was being very attentive, staying close and patting her with his feet. They didn't mate while I was watching. She was probably waiting to check out his flying skills before deciding whether to succumb to his charms. :)
